It all started when…

Rachel Huggins and Corrina Hewat got together, and magic happened. Both brought a diverse background of skill sets to the initial project and with over 50 years of joint creative experience, something truly inspiring and unique was born.

Moon Dragon was an idea that became a story, an enormous puppet, a song, a show, and Dragon Song Productions came to life.

First produced and supported by The Pleasance, the Moon Dragon show hit the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019.  The shows were a sell-out with rave reviews which led the creative two to create a longer Christmas show which again sold out.

Then in December 2019, Celtic Connections got in touch and asked for Dragon Song Productions to bring Moon Dragon to the Glasgow Festival as their first-ever children’s performance in January 2020. Was there no stopping this team?  Well, the answer was, of course, yes ……the pandemic of 2020-2021 made performances impossible, but they rallied and managed a sell-out run at Christmas 2021, proving they could adapt to any situation to make sure the show still goes on!

Sea Dragon was their second production which debuted in December 2022 and was immediately taken to Celtic Connections in January 2023 and has subsequently been booked for the Pleasance at the Edinburgh Fringe 2023. The feedback was immense, and the team even managed to bring in a multigenerational element and provide more relaxed performances proving that this children’s theatre group is going places and knows exactly what they want to achieve.

Their third show, Ice Dragon launched in December 2023 and will be appearing at Celtic Connections in January 2024. Sea Dragon is appearing at the Newcastle Puppetry Festival April 2024.

The company has also started a publishing arm for the Dragons and Dragon Song Press, bringing out the first of 4 books in July 2023 with Kipper the Sea Dragon, which accompanied the show at the Edinburgh International Fringe in August 2023 at the Pleasance.
